Make A Difference
Experience the greatest gift of all – the joy that comes with giving!!!!!!! Whether you enjoy working with children, helping the elderly, visiting the sick, working the land or caring for animals, there are a wealth of volunteer opportunities throughout the Land of Israel.
Meet a wide spectrum of immigrant and native-born Israelis and get to know Israel as no tour book can describe – “from the inside”. Both first-timers and veteran travelers alike are invited to help make the dreams of others come true.
While the actual tour depends on the amount of time you have handy, some of the themes and topics covered and places visited, may include the following:
- Visiting the Sick – Bring a smile to both adult patients and children who are hospitalized. A short visit, a cheerful word or the antics of a ‘medical clown’ can do wonders… For those with more time to spare, volunteer at Camp Simcha the camp for children suffering from cancer.
- Kibbutz – Work in the fields or cow-sheds, tend the vegetable gardens or date-palm plantations from the early morning until the heat of the sun becomes unbearable. Dine in the communal mess hall and mix with sabras and volunteers from around the world.
- Soup Kitchen – Thousands of Israelis are fed daily by NGO’s who rely on a vast network of volunteers, not only to secure funding, but also to cook, prepare, serve and distribute the food. Whether you are a gourmet chef or simply adept at lugging boxes, there’s always plenty of work to be found…
- Tutoring New Immigrants – A decided lack of manpower in Israeli schools is supplemented by a dedicated cadre of volunteers who help students with their English and Math homework and often provided some much-needed warmth, encouragement and support.
- Disabled – Help run a summer program for disabled children or take an afternoon to assist in an arts-&-crafts workshop.
- Clean-up Hikes – Walk the length and the breadth of the country with a garbage bag ever at your side. Leave nature more beautiful and inviting for the next hiker.
- Magen David Adom (paramedics) – Following an intensive training course, you can volunteer with MDA riding out on a ambulance and providing first-aid treatment to those in need. Professional counseling is available to help deal with the strains and stresses of the work.
- Archeological Dig – Discover the secrets hidden in the sands of time as you dig beneath the service under the watchful eye of Israel’s foremost archeologists. Who knows just what you may find?
