Wine Route
Indulge your senses and sample the award-winning wines that have made Israel a destination of choice for wine connoisseurs. From the Arava and the Negev Desert in the South, to the Golan Heights and Hermon Mountain in the North, you can discover a rich variety of flavors, tastes and aromas, visiting both boutique and commercial wineries. Meet with the farmers and wine-makers and discover some of fascinating history, geopolitics and technology behind their successes and failures.

While the actual tour depends on the amount of time you have handy, some of the themes and topics covered and places visited, may include the following:
- Ancient Art of Wine-making – Visit the archeological excavations at Gibeon where millennia-old wine cellars have been discovered. Crush grapes as in days of old in wine presses from the days of the Mishna & the Talmud.
- Desert Wineries – Using drip irrigation, farmers have managed to turn the semi-arid desert into wine producing country. The Yatir Winery near Arad in the North-East Negev produces rich full-bodied fruity red wines under the Ya’ar Yatir label, and subtle Sauvignon Blanc wines, fermented at extremely low temperatures with the slightest hint of citrus.
Golan Heights – The rich, volcanic, basalt rock, cool breezes and marked night-day temperature differentials make the Golan Heights an ideal location for grape-growing. The Golan Heights Winery in Kazrin has won numerous prizes with its Yarden label and there are delectable treats in store at the boutique wineries scattered throughout the Heights.- Wineries and the Zionist Enterprise – Baron Edmond de Rothschild helped get the modern Zionist enterprise on its feet, purchased large tracts of land for the growing of vineyards and invested heavily in building wineries in Zichron Ya’akov and Rishon LeZion. These two wineries produce under the Carmel label
